Comparison — vs TrueCoach

Coach Sheet vs TrueCoach: Premium UI vs Methodological Depth

TrueCoach charges $58-298/month for a polished UI. Coach Sheet charges $15 flat and exposes the methodology. Which is the right call for your roster?

Verdict

TrueCoach has a more polished interface and stronger video coaching workflow. Coach Sheet is 75% cheaper at any roster size, exposes the math, and writes data to your own Drive. If your coaching relies on form-check video back-and-forth, TrueCoach is genuinely good at that. If your bottleneck is admin time and pricing, Coach Sheet wins.

Where TrueCoach wins

  • 01 Stronger form-check video workflow with annotation tools (drawing on the playback)
  • 02 More polished UI overall, TrueCoach has invested heavily in product design
  • 03 Better-developed comment threading on exercises (vs our single Achieved column)
  • 04 Larger exercise library with more video angles per exercise

Where Coach Sheet wins

  • 01 $15/mo flat vs $58/mo entry tier, saves ~$500/year at the smallest TrueCoach plan
  • 02 Methodology configurable in the cell. RPE bands, volume landmarks, macro ratios all editable
  • 03 Data lives in your Drive, not in TrueCoach's servers
  • 04 BMR/TDEE/macro formulas visible, not hidden behind 'AI calculated'
  • 05 Built-in three-test PR protocol with confidence band, not just single-rep max tracking
  • 06 No per-client pricing tiers

TL;DR

TrueCoach is the premium-UI option. They’ve invested in product polish, especially around form-check video coaching. We’ve invested in methodology depth and data ownership. The two tools serve subtly different coaching styles.

If your day-to-day coaching looks like “review form check video, draw on it, send back”, TrueCoach is built for that. If it looks like “set the RPE prescription, watch the achieved log come in, adjust next week’s programming”, Coach Sheet fits cleaner.

Pricing comparison

TrueCoach plans (as of May 2026):

PlanRosterMonthly
Soloup to 30$58
Studioup to 80$148
Enterpriseunlimited$298

Coach Sheet: $15/month flat for unlimited clients.

At 30 clients: $43/month savings = $516/year. At 80 clients: $133/month savings = $1,596/year. At unlimited: $283/month savings = $3,396/year.

Where TrueCoach is genuinely better

Form-check video workflow. This is the area where TrueCoach genuinely shines. They have annotation tools that let you draw on a client’s video, slow it down, attach voice notes, and send the whole thing back as a coaching response. We don’t replicate this. Our client sends a video URL or attaches a clip, you watch it and reply with text or a separate voice memo. If video review is 50%+ of your weekly coaching workflow, TrueCoach earns its price.

UI polish. TrueCoach’s mobile app is one of the best-designed coaching apps we’ve audited. Smooth animations, intuitive navigation, attention to detail in form entry screens. Our PWA is clean and fast but doesn’t have the same level of polish.

Comment threading. TrueCoach lets clients comment per-exercise, threaded by date. We have a single “Achieved” column where the latest comment overwrites prior comments (history is preserved in revision history but isn’t immediately visible). For coaches who run multi-month progress review sessions with rich comment trails, TrueCoach’s threading is better.

Exercise library depth. TrueCoach ships more exercise demonstration videos with multiple angles per exercise. Our library at launch has 200+ exercises, growing weekly, with single-angle videos.

Where Coach Sheet wins

Pricing model and price. $15 flat vs $58-298 tiers. Self-explanatory.

Methodology depth. TrueCoach abstracts away the math. You see “TDEE: 2,400” without seeing how it got there. Coach Sheet shows “TDEE: 2,400 (BMR 1,548 × Activity Multiplier 1.55, Mifflin-St Jeor)” with the formula on hover. Macro ratios are configurable cells (1.6/0.8/2.0 g/kg vs 1.8/1.0/2.5. Your call). RPE color thresholds are editable (some coaches want yellow at RPE 7-8, others at 8-9). For coaches with a defined methodology they’re not willing to compromise, this matters more than UI polish.

Three-test PR protocol. Body Unbound’s free template (which we credit and are inspired by) introduced the three-test methodology: 1st test at 5 reps RPE 8, 2nd at 3 reps RPE 9, 3rd at 1 rep RPE 9-10. We ship this as a built-in tab; TrueCoach just tracks single rep maxes.

Data ownership. TrueCoach hosts your client data on their servers. Cancel, lose access. Coach Sheet writes to your Drive. Cancel, keep the spreadsheets and keep coaching from them in raw Sheets if you want.

No AI generation. TrueCoach has been adding AI features (workout generator, smart progressions) in 2025-2026. We don’t. The trainers we interviewed didn’t ask for that, and the methodology-driven ones explicitly didn’t trust it. We made the editorial call to not ship it.

What’s the same

Multi-week programs, mobile client view, photo and measurement check-ins, habit tracking, exercise libraries (ours smaller), workout completion percentages, basic charts. The mechanics are similar; the philosophy diverges.

When to choose which

Choose TrueCoach when:

  • Form-check video is the heart of your coaching
  • Your clients pay $200+/mo and expect premium UI
  • You don’t want to manage data in Google Drive
  • App store presence matters

Choose Coach Sheet when:

  • Your coaching is methodology-led (RPE, periodization, progression)
  • Pricing scales with your career and you don’t want it to
  • Owning client data is non-negotiable
  • You want the tool to be a scribe, not a co-coach

Migration considerations

TrueCoach has a CSV export for client data (workouts, measurements, body weight). Map the columns into the Coach Sheet onboarding template, run the import, and verify a couple of cycles before migrating active programming. Allow 1-2 working days for a 30-client migration.
